With which products will Secure4DM
integrate?
Currently Secure4DM integrates with Secure4Access.
This version distributes user profiles and passwords throughout
the Secure4Access environment. Future versions are intended to integrate
with Secure4Privilege and Secure4Audit to easily distribute configuration
files and program/script and audit profiles.
I have a small network - will I still benefit
from Secure4DM?
Secure4DM ensures delivery of profile and
password updates, so even if you only have a few hosts that you
are propagating information to, Secure4DM will add reliability.
How many Secure4DM hosts should I use?
The answer to this question is largely dependent
on the configuration of your network. At least on Secure4DM host
per geographic location, probably serving no more than 20 hosts.
If a separate DMZ is to be served, you'll probably want a specific
Secure4DM host for that set of hosts as well.
How much performance increase can I expect?
See the chart for a more detailed example.
Consider the difference between one host trying to update 100 hosts
vs. 5 hosts updating 20 hosts each simultaneously. In this example
you have increased your efficiency by 80%.
What advantages do I get from using Secure4DM?
Secure4DM adds the ability to ensure that
a profile or password update reaches the intended host even if the
host was unavailable at the time the message was originally delivered.
Secure4DM splits the workload of delivering profile and password
updates to multiple hosts, thereby reducing the amount of time an
update takes to reach all its destinations and immediately releasing
the Secure4Access program (AKA the admin or user).
Why is the functionality of Secure4DM not inherent
in the Secure4Access product itself?
The functionality Secure4DM provides is not
needed in very small networks. In the case of smaller networks,
the added benefit of Secure4DM may not outweigh the operating "costs".
In order to keep the cost of Secure4Access to a minimum Secure4DM
was developed as an add-on for our larger customers.
I have a firewall - will Secure4DM still work?
Yes! Messages between Secure4Access and Secure4DM
are passed via a socket connection. The port used for this connection
is fully configurable, so all that is necessary is opening the configured
port on your firewall host. Messages received by Secure4DM are thoroughly
checked for authenticity, and dropped if not deemed authentic.
What if the Secure4DM host goes down?
Up to 7 back up hosts can be specified. If
the initial Secure4DM host is unavailable, Secure4Access will attempt
to send the request to the next Secure4DM host listed.
